Manes start around the end of 1992 as a project and record the three demos "Maanens natt” (1993), "Ned i stillheten” (1994) and "Til kongens grav de døde vandrer” (1995). In 1999 the album "Under ein blodraud maane” is released by Hammerheart Records. It is simply a re-recording of various tracks from the three previous demos.

The second Manes full-length "Vilosophe” is released in 2003. The music is labelled "Neo Avant Metal” by their new label Code666. Since this album Manes are known as one of the weirdest avant-garde metal acts. Manes themselves ignore this description and simply call the music "a dark mix of metal and rock with electronic elements." In 2007 their latest album "How The World Came To An End" comes out, pushing the limits of metal even much further. In 2008 the band split up.
