Kekal from Indonesia form in August 1995. One year later they release their first official demo "Contra spiritualia Nequitiae". Their first three albums bear a quite charming variation of extreme metal: "Beyond The Glimpse of Dreams" (1998), "Embrace the Dead” (1999) and "The Painful Experience" (2001).

In 2003 Kekal release "1000 Thoughts of Violence". This album marks Kekals breakthrough outside Asia. Elements of jazz-fusion, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, trip-hop, experimental electronic and ambient music enrich their extreme metal style. With "1000 Thoughts of Violence” Kekal starts to get labelled as avant-garde metal.
In March 2004 their label Fear Dark organizes a tour through Europe for Kekal. As the first independent band from Indonesia they play shows in Holland, Germany, and Sweden. In 2005 their 5th album "Acidity" comes out. Due to the band "Acidity” is their final album in the extreme heavy metal territory, because they want to "continue to work on music beyond the limits of musical genres.” Kekal mastermind Jeff Arwadi moves from Indonesia to Canada.

With changed licensing partners they release "The Habit of Fire” in 2007. This experimental 70-minute epic concept album makes a liberal use of electronic elements and mixes countless musical sub-genres with guitar-driven soundscapes. After 5 full-length albums within the extreme metal realm Kekal aim to move far beyond their metal roots and explore new musical possibilities. The band calls it "urban avantgarde metal”.
