Philadelphia-based MASADA is a new formation of members with associations to GOREAPHOBIA, CRUCIFIER, IMMOLATION, RELLIK, amongst many and thus it may not come as any surprise to you that the procreation of a band like this will be straight-on brute death metal. The visual impression of the demo gives an old-school vibe due to a very D.I.Y.-cover and the audible overview is that this will be two short and direct songs delivered within less than 7 minutes. However, there's more to it than what your average teenage boys' death metal band around the block would be able to get together. The first track, Suffer Mental Decay has a nice groove with interesting guitars and loops done by Chris Milewski, Craig Smilowski performing some rhythmic drumming, and a playful base guitar by Matt Dwyer, and on top of this you will hear Cazz "The Black Lourde of Crucifixion" Grant sing with a deep and charred voice as from beyond the grave. The second song Toxic Unreality begins a bit more oblique and dark than its predecessor but all in all, both songs deliver good old-school darker-than-average death metal that are a bit less conventional that one would expect, and are hopefully indications that we will hear something more in the future.
