Nu breed and flashy shiny hardcore/metalcore have ruled the metal scene for a few years now. The copy/paste of the trend became an overload for the genre filling it with a great number of worthless projects and lost hours of recorded music without any hint of real personality, passion or struggle to find the real meaning hidden somewhere in our collective mind.
Prod chose the other way.
Yes the music is rooted in the style but ot expands way over the borders the standars of the genre define. Mixed with various, sometimes untracable influences, the music you will hear defines something one might see as a new approach to forming the music (and the future) of metal.
21 21 is omitted of the flashy "cool" riffs and soarig screaming refrains, no false pain or anger is put in the music. It's loud and powerful but in a sence minimal, repetative just as much it should be, and always flowing.
The instrumentation is an interesting sphere, from full chords to crushing and droning riffs there is an always present scence of motion, a perpetuum mobile in music, rolling 'till it hits the wall...or your head. The downtuned instruments give a sence of power, but there is no noise, no additional element that chokes the music, the breaks are sudden and more than effective (not like the lame breaks which you usually find in "cool" riffs). The relativly slow pace of the drums keeps the music on the ground level, it's never incoperhensive even tough it's rich with non standard rhitms and ideas, again not for the cause of being differet, they are coherent with the music. The vocals are a very interesting part of this band, a very wierd way of screaming definitly aids to the unusual sound of the band. Growling is also a constant part of the music, but there's no place for gutural outbursts of sound, it's lightweighted and coresponds with the character of the music, chrushing but flowing and ever changing.
Again the underground has given us a riddle to solve, and a sound to consume. Respect is hopefully granted from the reader if listened but not loved. It has been loved by the writer who's objectivity might be questioned...or shouldn't be.
In person Prod are an interesting group of animals, ready to have a blast, a good drink and play a (little secretive but) great gig in front of a bunch of stunned people and a stuffed bird.
