A new album from Borknagar on March 26th, now featuring both Vintersorg and ICS Vortex. I remain spectical considering the previous release.

I remain skeptical to anything featuring Vintersorg.

(potential) 2012 releases I'm looking forward to:
Gorguts
DHG
Fleurety

uhm... well that's about it I guess! Haha. Maybe Vikernes will do a smart thing and record metal covers of Daudi Baldrs & Hlidskjalf? I'd buy it.

That might actually be interesting. From the Depths of Darkness was not bad as such, but neither was it an improvement. I found it to be superfluous.

New releases from DHG and Fleurety would also be interesting. As always I am looking forward to the new Thorns album that Snorre is allegedly working on although it may have been reduced to vaporware by now. At least I know Lamented Souls will work on something new but a 2012 release is probably too optimistic. :)

EDIT: Code are working on a new album. Hexvessel will soon start recording their second album. Blutmond are currently recording their third album.

Haha! Spot on.

He already did, kind of. Just listen to the first song on Daudi and then the first song (not the intro) on Belus. I think he already picked up what he wanted from those and transformed it into songs on Belus and Fallen.

Anyway he will release something for sure, 2012 or 2013.

...

I was going to mention Thorns but Echon beat me to it. Anyway, I'll add to the vaporware (lol) list for 2012 Age of Silence and also, and I really hope I'm wrong here, Two Trains. Anyway Thorns and Age of Silence are in my albums for a new year list since at least 2009.

DHG and Fleurety, oh yeah. Also I'll look forward to anything released at Zeitgeister Music, and probably buy most of it.

There is no news about them, I think, but I'd like to hear new albums from Whirling and especially Bergraven. Do you know what's Pär up to these days, Andreas?

Oh, I'm also looking forward to a minicd (not album, neither ep) by Soap&Skin. Anja makes some amazing music.

The new BERGRAVEN album is... well, delayed. Shouldn't go into details here though. I hope it will be recorded this year. Have no idea what's happening in the WHIRLING camp, but it seems LÖNNDOM is working on a new album, which is nice! And... well, me and Pär are working on a new project. Mid 90's Norwegian BM fused with early 70's UK prog. I'll keep you all updated on that one...

AURA NOIR perhaps?

For my own glory (some more): the final HAVOK album will be released. It's being mastered right now actually, so a spring release mightn't be impossible.

Please do! One of my favourite bands plays progressive black metal. ;)

Not perhaps, but certainly! http://v2.ztmag.com/blog/news/?p=6016

I have also got plans in the music department for 2012. Late this month I will try to join a choir which coorporates with the philharmonics in performing works of classical music. Next up is Mozart's Requiem. More important is the new band for which I will begin searching for members in a month or two. I have been writing music for this project since August (when I left Sepulchrum) and songs are starting to take shape. It will be based on, but not limited to, black metal. I am really looking forward to this. :)

Nice! Had missed that AN update. Thought Blasphemer played on Hades Rise, but that was perhaps only solos.

Yeah it's always fun to start new projects, so good luck with those projects! I'm also trying to start up a grindcore band (Deranged just isn't enough in the blastbeat department"), but it's slow because basically, we (bassist+singer) need a drummer and a guitarist-songwriter. That is, 80% of the band, haha!

Going back to other's music: BLACK SABBATH. No matter what happens, this is going to be interesting. Hit or miss I guess. Just hope Iommi gets well from his cancer... =/

Thanks, and all the same to your projects, of course. Maybe you should revolutionise grindcore with a bass & vocals-only approach.

Yeah, I also hope Tony Iommi wins that battle.

Nice for you both! I wish I had the time and strength to work on some musical project this year. I've tried the past one, but failed, not enough people/time/dedication.

Aura Noir, yes, I forgot. Looking forward to that one as well. Not that much the same with Black Sabbath, I0m very skeptical on that front and I have yet some old records by them to discover.

I wonder if Ihsahn will release an album, too. Could be nice.

So, what will be the first interesting album this year? January something? Feb, maybe? For me, it's that Soap&Skin minicd, at least that I know of. It's due in february. In the meantime, I recommend you all listen to the previous album, her debut 'Lovetune for vacuum'.

You'll have to spread some light on Soap&Skin. What is that?

Young woman (21) with a beautiful voice, a lot of anguish and a piano. Add sporadic electronics. She has collaborated with Fennesz and Apparat.

Search it on goggle, myspace or spotify. Or even youtube or pitchfork, wherever you like.

CANNIBAL CORPSE are to release their 12th album "Torture". Showing major signs of progression, obviously! :D

Swedish Industrial group SKIN AREA are releasing their "Rothko Field" cd on Malignant Records sometime this year. Side project of IRM. Not metal, but certainly some drone metal (Skullflower/Earth/Sunn) influences on the first of these two tracks:

Definitely looking forward to this.

Forgot that Kyrck has announced an album from APTORIAN DEMON which is amazing news. Their 7" from 2005, "Angst, Jammer og Fortvivelse" (angst woe and despair, wonderful title), is one of the best "play it like the 90's" Norwegian BM I've heard.
