Quote: But anyway, it was the only gig of Bal-Sagoth I ever saw and the last gig of Orphanage that I saw before their split, so it has still a special charge for me...
Yeah, the same here. Well, I didn't see Orphanage, but it was my first Bal-Sagoth live encounter. And I think they played at 12 though, but that's irrelevant.
Well, that's considarate of them to think of the poor chaps who do not live in walking distance from the venue. Come to think of it, the band playing last wasn't headliner, they had the choise of playing first or playing last. But they were scheduled to go onstage at midnight, so there's organising 7 demobands for you... Never more than 4 bands in an evening should be allowed. If more, it's a festival that should start earlier in the afternoon...

Aha, so Bal-Sagoth 12 and Orphanage at 11 - that is maybe the reason why you did not catch them... Terrible. From the aspect of the fan, it asks a lot of discipline and care about the time. aVoid wrote: ...But they were scheduled to go onstage at midnight, so there's organising 7 demobands for you...
Pure amateurism. I am glad that our local promotor has a common sense and mental sanity... What band was the headliner?

Yeah, I'm definitely not playing there with any of my bands.
Well, I don't think there was a headliner! Perhaps the band playing second to last (I came there for the two last bands, had to listen through 5 hours of crap), I'm not sure... anyhow, most small stage gigs in Sweden tend to suck, either because of poor organisation, or poor attendance. Most often both. When Cryptopsy played in Gävle, a pretty big town, with Visceral Bleeding, they attracted about 60 persons, as many as Visceral brought themselves in Malmö on a Thursday night. Which is close to nothing, but very common in Sweden. And it bloody sucks! Seems central/eastern Europe is much more grateful and enthusiastic about metal shows in general, whereas Sweden is just.. bored. Idiocy!
Now I'm gonna go study semantics and listen to prog and power electronics.

Yesterday we had some 150 (my tip) metalheadz on Immolation... (If you consider that Prague has 20x more inhabitants than Gavle, I am not sure if it is much better here with the interest about gigs... ) On the other hand, Sunday, the day before, Dillinger Escape Plan attracted around 600 people... Maybe a battle between old and new... or between sunday and monday... aVoid wrote: Now I'm gonna go study semantics and listen to prog and power electronics.
Hehe, some Umberto Eco?
It is a great discipline...

P.S.: The extreme was in my opinion a gig of The End here in Prague, some years ago - 19 paying visitors in the club for 600-700... A surrealism... Despite this fact, the band and the fans enjoyed a lot this evening

New ESA album and Starving Weirdos are great. Check out, if you don´t know it...
..
Well, monday vs. sunday, I think, year ago would be much more people there to Immolation, but if I take a look to my gig calendar and compare it also with my financial situation, I could not be really everywhere(and couldn´t take day off from work on Monday). The same this Sunday, I have to decline Year of no Light in Prague , but want to see Grails.
Also, hc/straightedge is now quite trendy(well I hate this word and everything connected to this term, but it´s a fact), also don´t forget, that lot of people prefered Metalmania this weekend. Lot of gigs this year in Cze, well, not easy to pay it all, if you don´t have free entry etc, etc..
np. Motek ...and going for a lunch
edit: well, I was at one gig in Přerov, where were only the members of two playing bands supporting themselves and me with girlfriend, hehe...

Despite this fact, the band and the fans enjoyed a lot this evening Well, 10 people in the moshpit is better than 100 in the bar, so to speak... It's great when a band is proud enough to get by a small crowd, there are few things worse than disappointed musicians, it's sad in a stupid way. That Immolation got 150 paying when DEP got 600, I suppose it's because DEP pulls both metalheads, HC heads as well as pretentious math/art rock chums. Whereas Immolation attracts metalheads only. Reminds me of when Samael played in Malmö a couple of years ago. I've only heard a retelling of it, but it seems they sold so few tickets that they had to go out in the streets and give out tickets. I think Origin/Necrophagist/Misery Index and Enslaved/Vreid did better when they cancelled. All on the same venue, I might add. Quote: New ESA album and Starving Weirdos are great. You talking PE or prog?
np: SHIFT - Unable To Abide The Silence Of The World
Droning death industrial, extremely heavy and dark. Sounds like a really bad sleepless night.
