Suleiman: thank you! Indeed it is!

Today in the mood for something slightly less confortable: FUNERAL MIST - Salvation. One of the most evil albums recorded in Sweden, doubtlessly. I'd like to see all pop journalists hailing Watain and Ghost for being the real diabolic deal cope with this album, from start to finish.

It is a pretty good album - a bit different, but good nonetheless. Tony was really did nail the "Dio" style, but added a bit of his own personality. This is really the only "concept" album in the whole Sabbath discography.

Listening to:
Putrid Pile - House of Dementia
and
Devourment - Butcher the Weak

I know - dopey-ass "slam death metal" - dumber than a rock, but I like it. It has a groove to it, and a certain "feel" that I just need every so often. Kind of like Mortician, if they actually had any talent. (Ooooh, someone's gonna get me for that one too!) Hey,don't hate on me - I like Mortician! Roger B. was a Myspace buddy for years.

It is most definitely an acquired taste, and not something I listen to a lot. And once you pick one or two bands you like in the genre, don't even bother listening to any others, because they WILL all sound exactly the same.

Also listening to:
Zappa Plays Zappa

Talk about contrast in listening today, huh?

This is new to me but their songwriting is certainly more interesting that Watain's has ever been and I can hear why you would recommended Funeral Mist.

Yes, that album is the peak of the "orthodox" Necromorbus-based Swedish scene to me. Tore's drums are insane! That album and the last ARMAGEDDA album is nearly the only post-2000 Swedish BM you need. If you only need two albums that is.

Dunkel:heit - Obey (1995)

Old Red Harvest side project, more industrial oriented. Quite intense.
I've been looking for this for years. Finally some rip appeared.

Oh my, it's like Dawn hooked up with Bestial Warlust and spawned sweet beautiful offspring of Satan. Thanks for the heads up.

As of late;
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Aura Noir - Hades Rise
Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade
Caina - Temporary Antennae

Hella - There's No 666 In Outer Space

I thought I heard an interesting melody in the first song but I was forced to give up somewhere in the third track. Music like this contains the worst traits of the avant-garde, in my opinion (which is not humble). Hella has to be an acquired taste.

I agree. Everyone raves about how "tight" a drummer Zach Hill is. I disagree to this point. I'm not saying he's a bad drummer. I believe he is in fact an very good drummer, and very adept at what he does. Creative, powerful and resourceful, doing a great deal with a minimal kit. But "tight"? I'd say his strength is that he is the exact opposite of tight. He sounds like a drumkit being pushed down a staircase. But in a good way.

Listening to:
Megadeth - Rust in Peace Live - the 20th Anniversay Concert
- seriously, it's been TWENTY YEARS?? And they played it flawlessly. Chris Broderick is an incredible guitarist, and this music still grooves like no other.
