 Re: Now Playing Thread
esoteric - paragon of dissonance http://metalreview.com/reviews/6446/eso ... dissonanceif anyone has listened to this he'll be surprised that the "Esoteric thus remains, without hesitation or equivocation, the best funeral doom act ever visited upon this world, handily besting even their finest progenitors and contemporaries: Disembowelment, Thergothon, Skepticism, Ahab, Mournful Congregation, Evoken, Asunder, and all the rest (no slouches, either, those). More importantly, for all its outwardly imposing (even off-putting) factors, Paragon Of Dissonance manages the kingly feat of being entirely uncompromising and effortlessly accessible..." isn't far-fetched.

 Re: Now Playing Thread
ESOTERIC is a bloody great band.
np: UNIVERS ZERO - s/t or 1313 or whatever. Needed this after NUOMENA or what they were called. Not my cup of tea.

Tenhi - Saivo
Yet another album of the high standards they have established on their previous works. There are new elements on display here but they are subtle and will require time to identify. This sounds like an album which is going to grow a lot.

 Re: Now Playing Thread
Other than showing the skill of their new vocalist (I like that he's a bit more "manly" so to speak, interesting break from Kvohst's sensitive approach on the second album), this was what I guess most metal covers of non-metal songs are - meaningless and boring. But it'll be fun to hear what the new material will sound like. playlist this evening: FURZE - Reaper Subconscious Guide AUTOPSY - Mental Funeral CANNIBAL CORPSE - The Bleeding

Even though Aort is still at the center of the band, the lineup changes will probably result in new elements to the music. np: Dødheimsgard - 666 InternationalNot only a fantastic album, but I also really like the new track on the reissue: Proton Navigator. I have also been checking out the Zeitgeister roster lately on the request of Adryuu. Ekpyrosis and Gruenewald were played yesterday, Valborg today. My mind is not made up in any way yet.

 Re: Now Playing Thread
Playing some early ENTOMBED and late MARDUK, borrowed a case of cds from a band mate for a dj set I'm doing tomorrow at a local metal club. Apparently people are offended & leave if I play great stuff like Voivod, so some easier, more mainstream stuff is needed. And hell this is boring. Wolverine Blues... like falling asleep.

 Re: Now Playing Thread
I never understood why people like Entombed.
np: Mourning Sign - Multiverse
Experimental/progressive Swedish death metal from '96. There are certainly some interesting ideas on this album but it also lacks coherence to some degree. It sounds like something someone around here might appreciate. I had actually expected to find a review somewhere in the archives.

 Re: Now Playing Thread
Late, eh? I had a classic flash last weekend, from "Those of the unlight" I went to "Enthrone Darkness Thriumphant" to "La Masquerade Infernale" to "Anthems to the welkin at dusk" to "At the heart of winter"... Those were the times alright!
