Mastodon - discography (really nice band with KICKASS AQUATIC guitars)
Cypress Hill - Temples Of Boom (like one of the best hip hop albums ever?)
Terminal Sound System - Black Note EP (great jazz/glitch/ambient thing and it's for free download - http://www.archive.org/details/emb021)

Averse Sefira - "Advent Parallax" (just recommended in another thread - maybe NOT so old-school??)

For both Origin and Septic Flesh releases, I'm kinda disappointed...

Oh, I had that song on my computer (very legally distributed, mind you all), do you know anything about them? I remember they had some connection to Goblin, that is all I remember though. Have some enlightening information to spread? I'd love to hear more from them.

I'm only halfway through "Lovecraft's Death" (wondrous title!) from the new Septic Flesh, never heard them before. Is it just me, or does this sound a lot like a heavier more death metal kinda CoF or Dimmu Borgir, with the massive symphonics and all?
Now: Atrox - No Coil For Tesla (mp3s from the Season Of Mist newsletter, if anyone's wondering)... sounds very proggy. Not to fond of the singer, yet at least. A bit... poppy. In a metallic way. It just ain't the same without Monica, and I found them pretty annoying even back then. But I should listen to it without the noise of concrete-builders reshaping my balconny.

hmm that I'm interested in hearing. Don't know if I'll like it. Monica was the most important aspect of the band to me.

seems "no coil for tesla" isnt the best track from their newest stuff - "retroglazed", for example, is totally amazing. always loved the guitar work of this band, and seems it's not going to change anything, monica or not, vilosophe or not. hehe.
about origin... I just find the new album... shallow, compared to the three firsts. they were like "hey guys, we have longstreth again, we're going to do a new I I I" but that's kinda... I dont know, uninspired origin. where's the goddamn mood???
and about septic flesh, well, I like it - mostly because of antoniou's orchestral and harmonic work, but the whole thing sounds like "sumerian demons" minus the surprise effect, the godsent inspiration and plus some nice melodies ala revolution DNA... well, not a bad album of course, but a stagnant one for sure. as for origin...

I need to listen to both those albums more before I can form a real opinion, but they both sounded nice at first listen.

origin : the mood is there...example : "the aftermath " and the epci "antithesis"......plus it has progressed beyond echoes...
septic flesh : go beyond lovecraft's death, and you will see the unique atmosphere and idneituty of this band....im kinda thankful that some of the sumerian demons cyber effects have been dropped, because with the orchestral sweep, not much else is needed.........
well i guess each to his own

I like "Communion" - but I do see the similarities to Dimmu Borgir - after all, Fred Nordstrom recorded both bands, and probably had some input for the symphonic ideas.
I think Septic Flesh seems to combine all the things I like about Dimmu and Cradle, without the more annoying bits (the lesbo vampires, macabre stage puppets, goth tweenager boys in guyliner makeup, etc.)
Just good heavy death metal cake with great symphonic frosting. With better arrangements.
By the way, also listening to Nagelfar (not Naglfar) - a great German Black Metal band - "Virus West"
