 Arcturus
Can't believe it! No Arcturus topic in an avant-garde metal forum? Have to change that quickly.
So what about this band? Remember the good old days at the time when Arcturus was alive...

Well, what is there to discuss, really? They released some of the best albums ever, all categories, lost their main vocalist and visionaire, became kinda dull, went on tour, destroyed their mysterious aura, and split up. I'm not saying Sideshow Symphonies is in any way bad, but it only holds a candle in sunshine to their earlier efforts.
But I still love them.

Indeed they haven't found the most convenient moment for split up and Sideshow Symphonies is not to compare with former Arcturus stuff. But I don't care, Arcturus created sufficient mighty works!

I'm most familiar with The Sham Mirrors and La Masquerade Infernal -
LMI I often find to be just odd, with some of the operatic parts just not sounding like they fit, but the production is perfect.
TSM I think is better - all the parts gel, the songs are excellent, but I find the production to be a bit muddier, more lo-fi.
Hellhammer of course is incredible, and Garm's vox are great and obviously a big influence on a lot of the "clean" singers in extreme metal today.

I needed very long to get warm with "Sideshow Symphonies". But after trying again and again (an ARCTURUS- album couldn´t be bad, damn!) I came to like it... Yet, for me it will always be LMI.

Well, THE KOVENANT (or COVENANT at that time) of course. You might find some parallels to ARCTURUS in their music, at least on the "Nexus Polaris" album.

Yeah, but that is really a deep history, Sverd left Covenant ten years ago, immediately after the Nexus release (1998)...
Anyway, after that he did cooperate with Fleurety as well, on their "Department of Apocalyptic Affairs" (released in 2000).
I guess he is currently not involved in any active/known band, but I am sure we will hear about him soon. Now it is maybe a "time-out" before the next attack...

My favourite abnd!
Well I'm a bit glad that they fell apart cuz they would probably ruin what they did over the years...even the dvd isn't as good as someone would expacet (the performance)
but...Arcturus is the best!

Arcturus... The night of their concert was most definately the most oxymoronic (<<< does that word exist?? haha) night of my life.

Well the concert was simply mind altering and absolutely crazy and badass. I can´t remember that much from it because it felt like a dream. I took two joints with me and smoked one before Red Harvest, drank some beers and got in a nice mood during their set (2 or 3 were banging the shit out of their necks along with me as if the best band on the planet was playing).
Anyways Arcturus came on stage then and it was like time stood still. I heard many complaints about the sound or Simens performance but I had nothing to complain about!!! I was just tripping so hard on the music, smoking more, drinking more but I wasn´t getting high in the traditional sense of the term. I was literally uplifted and will always treasure this memory as one of the most soul shifting ones of my life.
BUT on my way home, looking forward to go to bed to recover, I was halted by the police because apparently I was doing snakelines with my bike which of course triggers Munich police to stop you because they have absolutely nothing better to do! They searched me, found the half joint I had left, and took me to the station. So instead of just going home and getting some rest, I could hang out for an hour at their fucking bureau, just to get a letter a few weeks later that due to small amount I won´t be brought to trial. Oh and I could walk the 3kms back home by foot at 1am still being sweaty from the concert... in the worst winter Munich has ever seen...
So that evening was at one time incredibly awesome but took a hard drift through a pile of shit at the same time.

I saw them at the first gig of their first tour in Malmö, fucking great. Hellhammer gave me a drumstick, I guess he saw that I headbanged the most, haha...

Enough, I'm envious!
Thanks to the german police for spoiling your holy night... maybe.
Btw, when did they play in Munich?
