ELIJAH'S MANTLE - Betrayals & Ecstasies - Fin-de-Síecle poet electro on World Serpent - very decadent and 90s. Heard a few tracks some years ago, "Portals of Opium" (yeah, a LOT of Baudelaire and Rimbaud and Poe and Huysmans, shit figures) is still kick-ass. Guess it lands somewhere between body and neofolk or something, with a lot of synthesizer strings and not-so-great vocals. Love-making, sex and strife!

Check out Bat Castle. Like a Progressive Cradle of Filth without the polarizing vocals and plenty of strange twists and tempo changes.

oh yeah, cool band. Used to have some Urizen members in it, which reminds me that I don't think I've seen their name mentioned yet.

aren't already too much "avantgarde jazz progressive rock" bands to actually be called avantgarde?
im not a fan, nor i have heard a lot, but are they really that original between themselves?

If not, I wouldn't suggest it. But it's true - sometimes they are really progressive, sometimes not. I am suggesting as a someone, who really take a care about it's progressivity. At least I hope so.

It depends. For me, lot of avant metal bands mentioned here are just common metal bands, like Thanatoschizo, which I can't found avantgarde in any way.

Vortech - Deep Beneath

http://koti.mbnet.fi/juhau/vortech/

Actually, Suleiman is the one who found this great one-man band at his Metal Madness page.

Very talented tech-death with an industrial overtone (but not as "commercial" or nu-metal as the once-great Fear Factory).

And his music is FREE!! How can you NOT recommend that??

Reviewed in AP 141.1 Indricothere

Aside from their name, which I cannot decide how to pronounce, these guys are a new entry into the Extreme/Death/Tech genre.

http://www.myspace.com/indricothere

Note - Indricothere are a family of extinct mammals, thought to be the largest mammals to have ever lived, related to the rhinoceros.
Thanks Wikipedia!

I think this is the guy who plays guitar or 10-string bass for Behold the Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, and a bunch of other very technical prog bands. Plus he runs a recording studio in NY. Very talented guy.

Colin Marston. As I read more about the band I made the same connection. Imagine what he could do with a few less projects and some intense focus with a static group of musicians.
