The Great Eternal Black Metal Thread
How about a thread solely dedicated to the new upcoming forces and the hidden gems of the antiworld which is black metal? If you find new interesting bands (and want to spread them rather than elite-hogging them, which is fine with me), post them here!
some I think will turn out very interesting in a near future...
NettleCarrier ( http://www.myspace.com/nettlecarrierofdoom)
with members from Ljå (Ciekals), Koldbrann & Urgehal (Mannevond) and Enslaved etc (Dirge Rep). Very interesting take on the Norwegian legacy. The promo is downloadable from myspace.
Svarti Loghin ( http://www.myspace.com/svartiloghin)
new and young Swedish band (ages 18-21), one rehearsal. Slow and depressive, but better than your usual "suicidal" BM-band. Some nice shoegaze-vibes, but very desolated.
Lönndom ( http://www.myspace.com/lonndom)
Our old friends from Armagedda return. Folk black metal rock. If you like Bergtatt you'll like this. Their album "Fälen Från Norr" is one of last years best album. A lot of nordic folklore, harking back to the native saami tribes. Shamanic.
The Deathtrip ( http://www.myspace.com/thedeathtrip)
I suppose most of you know them (Aldrahn's new band). but still... simplistic and raw! Just ordered their limited cassett-demo. Harsh!
Praise the Beast in Chaos...

Lönndom sounds interesting!
I´ll throw in:
Our fellow writer Polygon´s band MEMBARIS at
www.membaris.de
Fast BM in the swedish (Setherial, Blot Mine etc.) vein. Recommended.
ISLAND - Orakel (wich I will review next anyway).
LIFELOVER. Here´s a band that, after a long time, really managed to enchant me after nearly giving up hopes on BM.
KERBENOK.
http://www.myspace.com/kerbenokmusikk
Great nature-influenced Black/Pagan.
I might think of more when I´m home in front of my CD-collection.

LIFELOVER is a very interesting band. I liked the first album, but their second was... well, not at spontaneous. More like them actually trying to play and sing straight, but not actually being skilled enough musicians. Or maybe it's just me.
ISLAND... lovely name for a band.
SWINE from the US. Simplistic VON-worship, actually succeeding in capturing and even enhancing the feeling of Satanic Blood (Angel). Then, amidst it all, there are some really Bethlehem-sounding (SUIZID-era) guitars. One release, Mark Of The Baron. About 20 minutes of music. Look it up.

I´ve got the LIFELOVER - Pulver, wich is great. Don´t know if Pulver or Erotic came first at the moment...
ISLAND is not only an interesting name. Check them out, it´s kind of a mix between VBE and ENSLAVED with a slight Death-Metal touch. That´s what I´m going to write in the review, anyway
I honestly can´t see anything in VON. I wonder why most people do... But then, I´m a fool for BEHERIT who are not exactly skilled and technical musicians either *cough*

Uhm, the one with the naked bloody girl in the forest is the first, that's the one I like. I guess it's Pulver, though I constantly think it's Erotik because of the cover's naughty nature. There's a lot going on in that album... especially if you're swedish and born in the 80s, a lot of samples from children's TV from the early 90's and sick stuff like that.
Oh! Sounds very interesting! Must check out.
Hehe... it's takes a sick and perverted mind to enjoy VON! I don't know why, but I'm a complete sucker for them. Possession! BEHERIT never caught my mind... but then again, I haven't listened enough.
some more...:
NEGATIVE PLANE - Et In Saecula Saeculorum (AJNA) 2005. Simply outstanding. Contains everything from Black Sabbath, Death SS, Mercyful Fate, Darkthrone (1990-1992), Mortuary Drape... Thrashy and old-school, but not in the ordinary Aura Noir sense. A must have.
LES LEGIONS NOIRES - the old French maniacs. VLAD TEPES, BELKETRE, MOEVOT, BRENORITREVZORKRE, DZLVARV, VAGEZARYAVTRE... sickening necrohatred and complete darkness. Just learning how to spell their band names is a chore.

Yep, we want more naked forest girls! ...that´s the one alright. Haven´t heard the Erotic yet. Say, from what I decipher from the swedish Lyrics, they DO sing about some guy sitting on a couch in his livingroom eating pizza in that one song, don´t they?
BEHERIT is purefuckingevilrumblingaroundovhell, and who the fuck needs a metronome? I just need my occasional dose of chaotic necro noise. "Werewolf, Semen and Blood"! SATAAAAN!
Man, these last bandnames sound as if some russian guy sneezes really heavy
GEIST
http://www.the-geist-reich.de/
Intellectual german Black Metal. Whatever you make of that description... I made it up. But they´re good.
HAGAL
http://www.hagal-blackmetal.de/
Seems offline at the moment? But great screamy Black/Pagan.
TERMINAL SPIRIT
http://www.myspace.com/terminalspirit
Ultra-fast destructive Black Metal! Somewhere between ZYKLON and SHINING. Or something like that. We´re going to play live with them at the end of May.

After some years of silence
ALVERG
from Norway returns and hopefully with songs that can hold the level of the fantastic 2003 demo. www.alverg.com
Just listened to
LÖNNDOM
this very morning in the early hours. A unique album in many regards, atmosphere wise not to be compared with other folk bm recordings, it's somehow more out of this world...

Quote: Man, these last bandnames sound as if some russian guy sneezes really heavy haha, yeah... it's from their made-up language. they have complete demos only in that language - and it must be a real language, it looks really convincing as to grammar etc. Looks like a mix of Hungarian and old French, perhaps some Gaul dialect or something. What about this track list? Brenoritvrezorkre - Vasagraèbe éakr vatrè brenoritvrezorkre 1. Aaprab Vergz Varbadre 02:06 2. Eakre Uatre Zurgtapre 02:41 3. Berv Tre Mve 01:45 4. Vermyapre Zuerkle Uatre 01:53 5. Kloarbe Vurtrue Zuerkle Goebtre 01:59 6. Uatr Borvuatre Zuerkle Droer 08:40 Quote: Say, from what I decipher from the swedish Lyrics, they DO sing about some guy sitting on a couch in his livingroom eating pizza in that one song, don´t they?
I suppose you're reffering to Söndag (Sontag);
"It's Sunday,
in the suburbs the forgotten ones sit with their things
Pizza cartons, beer cans, cigarette butts, fat hair, greasy fingers
Yesterday's attempt to forget everything, fatally failed
The sun is once again shining on the dull parquet floor
Anxiety comes again too and with it the horrifying face of insight"
Not that far away from the truth actually. The depths of everyday angst.

V:28
http://www.myspace.com/v28band
My Vendlus promo package was veeeery promising indeed. This one is USBM at it´s best (though they claim to play Death Metal, I see much resemblance to KROHM, XASTHUR and the like. But there´s also some ARCTURUS and a little ABORYM involved. Just admit it, you are BLACK METAL, damn!). It features - once again - Garm on guest vocals, wich is always good

Hey, I like these guys! They sound a bit like Zyklon with more Black Metal vocals - futuristic - maybe some DHG? Cool! I like the atmosphere overall.

some Norwegians everybody should lend an ear to (and I suppose some of you have):
KVIST - For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike (avangarde music 1995). Melodic and strangely progressive, a lot of keyboards but eclipsing dudes like dimmu borgir back in -95/96. A must-have for anyone into Norwegian BM. Perhaps did their name little to help them (Kvist means twig). Rereleased not to long ago. Their guitarist Trond Nefas is also found in Urgehal, In Lingua Mortis and Beastcraft.
ISVIND - Dark Waters Stir (1996). Great Bergtatt-like (but harsher, without acoustic instruments and clean voice) melodic BM. Feels like running through a dark Norse pine-forest chased by the plague. Silly name them too, "Ice wind". Broke up in -97 but got together -02, only released a half-assed promo since. Members from Orcrist and Tsjuder.
I received the Deathtrip demo today, will listen to it and give it some comments later today.

One of the KVIST guyz nowadays rulez in da mighty XPLODING PLASTIX which make avantgarde music without doubt: www.xplodingplastix.com Their album "Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents" might sound even more silly title-wise, but it's incredible chaotic, crazy and explosive - and dark: listen to "Sports, Not Heavy Crime"!
