Interesting testimony about Varg coming from Apollyon (Aura Noir, Lamented Souls, Two Trains, Immortal, etc.):
Were you around the scene in the early 90s?
(Pauses) It was pretty extreme. (Another pause). It was strange, we were young. I dunno, it was very important to shake those death metal guys off our backs, they were destroying the scene. In the beginning you could walk around and nobody would notice but then this Grishnackh guy [Burzum's Varg Vikernes] started talking to the papers. He was so interested in having all the media attention drawn to him, making it seem like he was the “king of black metal” or something like that. That was just very annoying because it was all over the papers and you couldn’t go anywhere without people and calling you Count Grishnackh. Basically, people wouldn’t leave us alone. Because before that nobody cared, but after he went to the papers, it was all – argghhh! – believe me, he was not the guy you wanted to be called. Of course it attracted a lot of new people to the scene, people who shouldn’t have been there – lots of Nazis. People who just didn’t fit in anywhere else were like, “Let’s try black metal,” and learned nothing. In the beginning it was people who were generally interested in music and it went on to be something very different. So it was just for a year or two that it was 'good' of you could call it that. I mean we never smiled ha ha but it was important, if it hadn't been for that era we wouldn't be here now.

So he has always been an attention whore, actually. Thanks for the link to the interview!

Quote: Tracklist:
Lukans Renkespill Belus' Død Glemselens Elv Kaimadalthas' Nedstigning Besøk Til Kelio Alvenes Dans Alvegavene Sverddans Keliohesten Morgenrøde Belus' Tilbakekomst The Return of Burzum Varg VikernesIt's been 11 long years and now the world will see the return of Burzum. The highly anticipated new album is entitled "Belus" after the name of the ancient European solar deity of light and innocence. "Belus" is not a religious album or an anti-religious album, nor is it a political one, but an attempt to explore the myths about Belus and unveil the oldest roots of our cultural heritage. The album deals with the death of Belus, his sombre journey through the realm of death and his magnificent return. In essence the album and the story of Belus is meant to be an entertaining story about something that once upon a time played a major role in the forming and shaping of Europe.
"The album has been made according to my heart and spirit, and not to fit into any particular genre or category, or to live up to anyone's obvious expectations". The music can best be compared to the music of some of the old Burzum albums; in particular the ground breaking "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" and the atmospheric brilliances of "Filosofem", only the ambient parts present on these albums has been almost completely left out on "Belus". "There is no special reason for this, other than coincidence and the fact that I have for some time made more and better music on the guitar rather than on the keyboard".
"Inspiration for the album has come from a variety of sources, and I find my inspiration from fairy tales and myths, from classical music, from memories of what once was, from traditional music, from fantasy, from the wind and weather, from deep forests and running water, from the sky and the sunset, from misty mountains and from yellow leaves falling from age old trees".
"My ambition with "Belus" is to create something I - and hopefully others too - can listen to for years and years to come without ever growing tired of it, and at the same time to share with my audience the experience of getting to know Belus, as he might have been perceived by the ancient Europeans". The combination of lyrics and music makes this a fairy tale different from most others, and should appeal to all those who like transcendental music and love to see different things from a different perspective. "If I can make you dream when listening to this album, I believe I have done a good job".
"I am aware of the black metal association with the name Burzum, and I have no real and serious problem with that, but I personally see no reason to place "Belus" in any category. I think "Belus" musically transcends all existing categories, but if I have to choose one - and for the sake of simplicity - I will simply place it in the metal category".
"Belus" will be released worldwide on Byelobog Productions on the 8th March 2010.

Well, at least he didn't try to break new ground with the cover, looks like any given folk-inspired BM from the past fifteen years!
I'll give the titles a shot at translation:
Lukans Renkespill - like... "Lure/jest of the Luka", whatever Luka is.
Belus' Død - "Death of Belus" (as in Daudi Baldrs)
Glemselens Elv - "Stream of Oblivion" (I think)
Kaimadalthas' Nedstigning - "Descent of Kaimadaltha"
Besøk Til Kelio - "Visit to Kelio"
Alvenes Dans - "Dance of the Elves"
Alvegavene - "Gift of the Elves"
Sverddans - "Sword dance"
Keliohesten - "The Kelio Horse"
Morgenrøde - "Dawn red", like the rosy tint of sunrise or sth.
Belus' Tilbakekomst - "The return of Belus"

I must have gotten wrong your first post.. the red words... I'm not sure to what extent anyone here might be interested .. this long interview http://www.dagbladet.no/2009/07/04/maga ... m/7051663/
I apologize, if it's a white noise as a whole. What I got for myself was that quote, actually "holding a candle in sunshine", but I'm still in pitch-black on many issues anyway.

I'm kind of glad the lyrics will be officially translated in to French.

the only thing I can really connect to the whole topic is of origin that has absolutely nothing to do with the whole topic :
If it was about renaming the album-title, I would have changed it to "The Return of the Great White" .. but I guess it too might have stirred a lot of controversy

Call me weird for that but I actually like his look on here. Prison life and long time isolation can really change a man's life. To me he looks much older than he actually is. I will give his new album a chance for sure, after all he was one of the first few. But I refuse to have high expectations, let's just see where he is nowadays. After what I considered to be the weakest come-back album possible by Dissection (a band I really enjoyed back in the days), hopefully he will do better.

Rænkespil, in Danish at least, means intrigue/betrayal.

Ah yes, "intrigue/betrayal" is better! We have the word "ränksmideri" in Sweden, which is a betrayal (smide=smithery).

Varg could just have called the album that since it at least conjoins all the Scando-German languages... =D
