Yes! eunichron wrote: 12 Monkeys; Ending was slightly predictable, but still a very good movie. All-time fave. Gilliam is brilliant. Don´t forget "Brazil", who has a weird and mean twist at the end too. eunichron wrote: Memento; Amazing movie with a unique way of storytelling. Yes, a brilliant mindfuck. eunichron wrote: The Departed; I guess I wouldn't really say suspense, but still one of the best movies of the decade. Right! And the original, Infernal Affairs 1-3. eunichron wrote: Oldboy; What I said earlier up in the thread.
Mean, mean ending. But brilliant as well.
I shall add:
"A Scanner Darkly": Dark, weird plot with a rather gloomy ending.
And one more Korean film: "A Bittersweet Life". This is a really great film, somewhere between "Leon the professional" and "Kill Bill" with a melancholical undertone. Sad ending.
And, again, "JCVD". The ending was not that surprising, but then again, somehow it was Olivier should know what I mean.

My brother and I just watched the trailer and weren't quite convinced, till we realized we were watching the American trailer. I don't know why or how, but all Myazaki movies only work in Japanese for us...

I never tried anything else I switched on Mandarin once by accident, and even that sounded strange...

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but I just finished watching Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, a 1975 film by Pier Paolo Pasolini based on Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom. The only major difference being that Salò takes place in 1944 fascist Italy rather than the 18th century.
Such a fascinatingly grotesque film. I recommend it to anyone that might be interested.

Yesterday night I have seen for the second time the movie Klimt, based on the life and art of Gustav Klimt.
Visually gorgeous, the film is kind of experimental with a strange and mysterious plot going on. I suggest it wholehearthtedly, John Malkovich is really perfect. There are BAD reviews on amazon so I guess it's not a movie for everyone either. Artsy, psychological thriller.

Watched Being John Malkovich yesterday....
Jesus christ, that is one SICK movie...
I love it!!! I really recommend it. Metaphysical satire with a psychologically twisted storyline:

I disagree with "The Departed" and "A Scanner Darkly" being great movies. Getting an Oscar for the first is a joke when you made movies like Good Fellas. Terrible movie and by the way a complete rip off of a chinese movie whose name escapes me right now.
Then again... Avatar didn't impress me much either except for some nice angles and pictures. But what a horrid story and character design. Terrible. I can't even remember when I saw a movie that left me in awe...

"Infernal Affairs" is what you are searching for. I don´t know if Departed was Oscar-worthy but certainly a good movie. And what is so bad about "A Scanner Darkly?" Yeah, the book may be better, but that doesn´t make the film bad... Or?

Tentakel P. wrote: "Avantgarde"-Movies? lol, I haven't read the 15 pages of this topix xD but I don't think anyone will have posted about this movie : it's called "The Fountain"... Everything in it is avant-garde. Quote: Official Website : http://thefountainmovie.warnerbros.com/Summary : The Fountain is an odyssey about one man's thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th century Spain, where conquistador Tomas Creo (Hugh Jackman) commences his search for the Tree of Life, the legendary entity believed to grant eternal life to those who drink of its sap. As modern-day scientist Tommy Creo, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife Isabel (Rachel Weisz). Traveling through deep space as a 26th century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries of life that have consumed him for more than a century. (Source : scifimoviepage.com) Starring : Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, Ellen Burstyn Trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDp-F3Y97ZQMusic by : Clint Mansell
Well this movie is really awesome. The graphical aspect is really perfectly worked, it's almost indescribable. Look at the Trailer and you'll have a slight glimpse of what the movie looks like. The music is kinda dark-ambient, it helps creating a super-weird atmosphere from the beginning to the end. And finally, the story is odd too : I've seen it three times, but I think I haven't utterly understood it yet... (lol)...
If you watch it do comment please
Laterz, Val

I've seen so far two films with music by Clint Mansell and actually liked them, a lot, and the other day I listened to the score for this film and I thought I might want to see it. But Hugh Jackman.... man, I'm re-thinking it... Fuck, doing a Spanish character. Bah, I'll end up watching it.

I saw Avatar yesterday.
Is the story original in any way? No.
Was I in total awe regardless? Yes.
Do I want to see it again? Definately.
Would I recommend everybody else to see it? Aye.
