@ Tentakel

yeah, the final battle on the ship is really of epic proportion! Another favorite is the big stone dude with his ULTRA-sized weapon. The scene as he slices the clanmembers in half in the treetops is quite memorable

(EDIT: the series are not bad at all, but lack some more compelling storyline, basically every episode features a new monster and its respective slaying, without telling too much of the story)

Thx for the names, will check them out. Hopefully it's one of these, but I believe these will also do fine for now.

Cheers

well i dont only dig the techoid stuff...i love ninja scroll (this is automatic if you are an anime fan and a metalhead) as well as vampire huntre d and blood.......i even dig some final fantasy mangas, as well as street fighter 2 the movie (best fighting game adaptation ever) ..also stuff like millenium actress, princess monoke, wings of honeymaise, spirited away plsu tonnes more (bserker, fist of the north star, cyber city oedo 808, 3x3 eyes etc),...there is soo mcuh stuff i ahve forgotten the name of...there was sick assed manga about an assasin ..the profesisonal or sumthin....suffice to say i spent a big part of my youth scouring pakistan for this stuff (pre-internet)

but i do like and differentiate good animation as opposed to the 'classic' style (excuse for laziness)....by hentai i meant not only uro-nameicantpell but a lotta other stuff...all genres...i actually dont dig tentakel (sic) stuff that much..i like the more overdone versions and variations of humanoids :)

Anyone here seen "Advent Children"? What do you think of it? Myself, I find it great that Square has finally decided to do more stories in one FF-Universe (Like FFX and X2) and to do a movie (two, if you count the manga with Cloud and Zack) is a great way of continuing a story! And FF-AC has everything in it which belongs in a FF-movie, not like the mediocre cinema-version from the 90ties which was not that good... for FF, that is. Although the Gaia-Lifestream-theme has found its way into this one before AC.

Although quite cliché and plain in its story and character development, Die Hard possesses and will always possess the late 80's, early 90's ultra-violent charm.

5 Reasons to see it:

1) one-liners and quotes work and amuse

2) Officer "Carl Winslow"

3) The Asian bad guy that seems to appear in loads of action movies of that era (If you've seen Die Hard, you'll know who I am referring to :D )

4) The following scene:

Hans (badass German leader): Karl, schieß dem Fenster!

Karl (the not so clever clichéd über-bad guy): :?

Hans: :x , Shoot the glass!!!

Hans and other minions: TATATATATATATA

McClane (already beginning to look half-dead): AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

5) One of the best / worst cliché endings ever: kissing, happinness and christmas music 8)

I loved the Die Hard movies when I was a kid, and they still rule their field. At least the two first. The way action movies should be, from the time when they really could make seriously awesome action movies.

Infernal Affairs - Trilogy

Must-see for all Asian cinema lovers, fans of twisting and shifting superb storylines.

-A mole in a triad and a mole in the police influence all the lives around them

-They have been labeled as difficult to grasp, but what's wrong with a little thinking...right?

-Excellent acting, not one actor bothered me

-See all 3 films in a row, for better understanding as well as the great vibe that comes with it

-As you might have noticed by now, I'm very fond of these movies, and as some of you will know, The Departed is the American remake of the movies (or a mix out of the three?).... Shit, I don't even want to see it. (DiCaprio / Damon / ... --> come on)

Carnivàle

Superb series around an American traveling carnival group during the Great Depression and the (final) battle between good and evil

- The atmosphere is fantastic: dust everywhere, the clothing, the carnival members, visual effects,...

- Unfortunately the series were put to a stop before the actual ending (the term expensive and low ratings don't go hand in hand), so instead of the originally planned 6 seasons, we'll have to do with 2. This lead of course to an open ending of the series and many questions being left unanswered. Also, before viewing the series, a bit of background regarding Avatars (light, darkness, houses...) would help alot.

-Possible the best opening sequence ever to be seen on television:

die hard......yup !

also stuff like hardboiled ..kinda like die hard x 50 in trems of violence but completely devoid of the one liners and willis's bizarre charm.. instaed replaces it with a wistfullness and poingancy.....as only hong kong can into a blood fest

Grave of the Fireflies

The story of a brother and sister during the 2nd world war, set in Japan. Possibly the saddest anime-movie ever created, highly recommended.

Not only possibly. It is a great film, but I never ever want to see it again. It is so desperate and sad it hits you in the stomach. I admit I cried from anger over mankind in general after this (mind you, as I am an eviltrueelite Black Metal Warrior I usually NEVER cry).

The guys from ISLAND do share this view, btw - see the Interview I did with them some time ago, we chatted about Ghibli films ;-)

will check it out, and indeed, the word "Possibly" is absolutely redundant here... (I spontaneously think about the scenes where the brother reminisces about his sister playing... with the soothing, yet immensely depressing song chanted on the background...heartbreaking)

Just a footnote: I presume you know already that this film is based on a kind of autobiographical story? see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies

Notable is that here, too, they speak of "the most powerful anti-war movie ever made" "...depressing nature..." and so on...

I find it kind of macabre this was in a double-feature with "Tonari no Totoro" (one of the most beautiful films ever made). After Totoro, and if you compare the characters of Mei and Setsuko, "Fireflies" hits you even harder.

Wow, quite macabre indeed! I can imagine after having seen My neighbour Totoro (wonderful movie, indeed 8) ), you don't want to be stricken with the feelings brought about by this disturbing movie...

I presume Grave of the Fireflies to have been quite a failure then, upon release...

Just yesterday my "Afro Samurai" DVD arrived, hehe... Great Anime; does not quite reach his obvious example "Ninja Scroll", but it´s as close as it gets.
