Watched American Psycho. It had storyline flaws, but was sickening, psychologically.
I won't be watching it again (overall not good enough) but Bale's performance was amazing.
Though, the scene with the band talking, raincoat and axe was fantastic!

If you found that sickening stay the hell away from the book. It´s great, regarding the psychological aspect, but regarding Bateman´s excesses it is the sickest thing I´ve ever read. really.

Sickening is good . Is the book better than the movie?

No, sick ist not always good. Sick as "Dawn of The Dead" is good, but mysogynist sickness is not, to me. We had that discussion in the grindcore-thread. And this book makes our grindcore-thread look as if we talked about flowers in comparison, so be prepared.
As for a comparison book/movie: I can´t really tell which is better, because I tend to watch movie adaptions with a certain awareness of the different media´s possibilities. A good movie adaption should not be compared directly with the book, because it CAN only be different due to it´s different possibilities. A good movie adaption should add to the book and vice versa. The AP movie is definitely good, and the book is, too.

I watched "JCVD" yesterday. It is a Jean-Claude van Damme movie. Van Damme plays... van Damme, who has just lost custody of his daughter, has money, fame and drug problems and steps into a belgian post office where a heist is going on. The villains make him help them and the police thinks he is doing it because his career is going downwards and he needs the money. Check here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130988/
All I can say is: forget everything you know about van Damme, and go watch that movie. It is comparable (a little!) with Guy Ritchie flicks. This might well be a fresh start for JCVD. The best parts are a seven-minute-monologue of van Damme about his screwed life and (only a DVD-bonus, thogh you might want to check youtube for "van damme casting") van Damme showing up for the role casting of himself (hilarious!).
Really, BIG surprise. Recommended.

I think GUMMO is an awesome movie. Completely sickening and disgusting, lowest of lowlives, inbred and nauseating. But that's just me.
Add Brujeira, Bathory and Burzum to the OST. A lot of B's...

I rented the movie after reading your post and yeah, I think it was good. Funny because I started watching interviews with Jean-Claude before and after watching the movie. The man is Belgian and speaks french. And he's well-known for saying very weird things in french. He's called by the french public the looniest actor philosopher, etc. A very special man indeed. I didn't know he was as much open-minded and "out there". When he speaks, its like his thoughts are free to go in all directions, and often it can easily get confusing or the "what the hell is he talking about" kind of situation. And he's not shy to say, for example, that his whole acting career was bullshit lol. In english interviews, he's pretty normal though, so its kind of weird.
Also, what will make you smile: they were asking him if its really himself that he is playing in the movie. And he answered "only parts of himself", cause he doesn't think he would have tolerated this situation (at the post office) for a very long time in real life haha, implying he would have kicked their asses way sooner.

Yeah, I´ve read an interview with him where he says that after watching the complete "JCVD"-movie at the premiere he wasn´t able to do anything for a couple of days, because of what Mabrouk El Mechri did to him in the film; and that he won´t ever again make any movie he don´t like. He says Mabrouk El Mechri did to him what Scorcese did to de Niro. This might be a bit exaggerated, but after "JCVD" I had to revaluate van Damme for myself, too, so maybe he has it in him?
And after watching the Youtube-clips you posted he earned even more points It is always good when you do not take yourself too serious, and all that makes him sympathetic somehow
I don´t think Stephen Seagal and/or Chuck Norris would have made such a movie... On second thought - Chuck maybe, I mean he read his ten favourite "Chuck Norris facts" on Ophra´s show, so...

Can somebody help me out by recommending movies that fit the following criteria they should be
- (somewhat) intelligent
- not too creepy/scary/disgusting
- if possible slightly romantic (not cheesy)
and they should have a generally positive vibe about them, happy ending etc.
something you would want to watch while coming down from a mild acid trip for example
