Like... Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind? That's the first movie that comes to mind when I think of cosy and romantic and pretentious (sorry intelligent).

Depending on your definition of "creepy/disgusting," Oldboy was a very excellent Korean film. It's about a man who is kidnapped and locked in a room for 15 years, yet he doesn't know why, and then he is suddenly released without explanation. The movie follows him as he tries to find out who imprisoned him and why.
I really can't say much more than that without giving it all away, but I highly recommend it.

Try Hellboy 1 and 2. They are witty, fun, well written (for their genre) and they have not cheesy romance. And both have a somewhat happy ending
V for Vendetta also. The ending, depending on your point of view, could be happy.
Juno also comes to mind. Satirical, intelligent, with uncheesy romance and a happy ending. The first movie I saw that doesn't condemn teenage pregnancy.
Oh, and some very good comedies: Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Tropic Thunder

something you would want to watch while coming down from a mild acid trip for example You clearly want to see The Science of Dreams, something slightly offbeat with romantic aspirations and a charming, dreamy atmosphere. By Michel Gondry.
My second suggestion equally fits, and it would be Me and You and Everyone We Know, by Miranda July. Once again very dreamy, centered around serious questions on life and love but displayed with a charming and positive weirdness by the actors.
And then... well... all movies by Bertrand Blier!
For instance, two of them you could particularly enjoy:
How much do you love me?
Too beautiful for you
Both with Gérard Depardieu, whom I really enjoy as an actor.
And finally:
The Darjeeling Limited
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
by Wes Anderson...
I Heart Huckabees
by David O. Russel...

Let me think then...
Hmm, perhaps you could try out Delicatessen, a French masterpiece. One of the directors (Jeunet, I think) also directed le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain and Aliens Resurrection, and it shows, as Delicatessen uses the same colour schemes throughout the movie, brown/green/dark, that is.
The post-apocalyptic setting, the unique and hilarious characters, the love story (one I actually like for once), the dark humour and the wonderful music that comes with it really make for one of the best movies I've ever seen. Highly recommended!

I second these! And while we´re at it, "The Royal Tenenbaums" as well. They are cranky, slightly romantic, and witty

12 Monkeys; Ending was slightly predictable, but still a very good movie.
Memento; Amazing movie with a unique way of storytelling.
The Usual Suspects; another amazing movie with a huge twist.
Unbreakable; one of M. Night Shyamalan's first films. The ending isn't as much of a surprise, but it's still well done.
The Departed; I guess I wouldn't really say suspense, but still one of the best movies of the decade.
Fallen; Best thing about this movie is that the narrator tells you straight from the beginning exactly how it's going to end, yet the ending is still a surprise.
Oldboy; What I said earlier up in the thread.
Ravenous; Not a lot of surprises, but a good movie. I would also recommend the soundtrack, it's very weird and quirky... dare I say "avant-garde."
