 One-man bands live...
Just a random question, maybe this topic will stay blank (though I hope it won't haha ^^)
well, do you know one-man bands playing live ? Most of those I know use other musicians (Nargaroth...). But I wanted to know if you have heard of uncommon ways of playing live for such musical projects..
I hope my question is clear ^^,
If you've got some ideas, it'd be great too... I'm thinking about my own musical project.
Cheers, Val
(I'm sick & tired so please forgive my grammary mistakes, if any)

Hey, I never thought someone´d knew NARGAROTH here as it´s the exact opposite of Avantgarde I am quite curious how they are going to perform, we´re going to play a festival with them in june in austria.
As for playing live with one man: I do not know bands with one, but bands with two people on stage. I guess all you have to do is add a drum computer and you´re down to one.
There´s NEATNEATNEAT which is a rockband of a friend of mine. The guitar player has a shitload of effectpedals and uses them in a way that makes you think there´s a whole band on stage.
German Black Metal bands DRENGSKAPUR and SILENT LEGES INTER ARMA have only two people as well, and it works on stage. They play through two boxes so the sound is strong enough to cope with the absence of bassguitar and second guitarist.
I guess it all comes down to the sound, if you find a sound that has enough depth you don´t need bassguitar Also I´ve heard about effectpedals which record a riff you play live, and then with a single step it plays and loops this riff so you can play a second riff on top of that, like a duet with yourself
Hope that helps!

Hehe... Nargaroth was supposed to play at the Night Fest in Belgium (after Deranged), but he didn't wanna share the stage with the billed modern pop-deathcore bands (Dagoba et c) so he cancelled... and we got GLORIOR BELLI who were great. Which is also a one-man band with a live line-up. And from time to time, NINE INCH NAILS have been only Trent Reznor with live line-up. A few times I think he has been alone, only vocals + grand piano. Robert Fripp has worked a lot with those methods - recording loops on tape, building up intense harmonies. "Frippertronics" he called it, a lot of work with Brian Eno was performed that way. Kris Rygg used that technique on the Ulver show as well, creating some vocal loops for the performances of Silence Teaches You How To Sing + Not Saved. A lot of vocalists use loop effects when performing live, like Diamanda Galas (her first album, Litanies Of Satan - only vocals, and not the nice kind) and Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten (shrill screams in four layers of harmony made plaster fall from the ceiling in Gothenburg, or so I've heard).
Don't know if anyone uses looping techniques in metal though. I guess that would be SUNN 0))), if any.

well I think it's enough for you to find a drummer so live gigs can be improvisations/variatons on themes from your songs....I find that more interesting for a one-man-band instead of playing a song...try a bit of experimenting, you could play one big meddly of your songs live!Give it a tought!U could end up getting reviewed here :p

Hi there,
@tentakel > well Nargaroth... ist Krieg ? right !? ^^ haha
yeah, I've got a classmate who's got a loop pedal, but I'm not at all interested in this, I just find this impossible to use for my music ^^
@Ulv > yeah, I know an awesome drummer, who I've been playing for a while now. Your idea of mixing the songs etc. is great =)
@everyone > thankies for your answer... I'm trying to find some innovative ideas =) Anyhow, it's not a short-term project, my album isn't utterly composed yet.

the idea of playing with 2 cabinets is also a good one!

Actually I'm working on a EP album (6 songs). Once it's utterly finished I'll upload some audio material :p
Nothing before it's released so. Btw the album will be available for purchase at a low price

Yeah, it was only me.
There's nothing really good to upload yet... =)
Considering "selling one's music", some songs will probably be available for free, maybe all in digital format. But for "real" CDs, I cannot afford giving them away for free...

btt: some guys from NEUROSIS play solo acoustic gigs and one of this with Steve van Till will happen in a dripstone cave nearby my home in some weeks. I think I will attend this gig since the atmosphere inside the cave should add a lot to the music...
I think that would be a suitable place for Varg as well

I'd love coming... It must be awesome :p !
I've recently seen on the TV some guys playing music in such a cave... They had brought a huge piano, and getting it down there was extremly hard...
I'll try to find something about it on youtube or so, I'll edit my post
EDIT : I didn't find anything
