 Summer Festivals
wich summer festivals do you often go to?
I usually go every year to Metal Camp in Slovenia, I have only missed the 2nd edition in 2005.
It's such a great place where to do a metal festival, surraunded by the mountains with a lovely river, very calm and relaxing, not too many people.
I love the atmosphere that there is.
I have been twice to our Gods Of Metal, the biggest and most famous festival in Italy, but with a very bad organisation, not very good sound quality, and high prices.
But in 2005 I had the great opportunity to see Strapping Young Lad performing, they just kicked asses ...

The last one I went to was two years ago, a local one called Purple Door. No real metal though. Mostly rock, alternative, and metalcore.

I went to Wacken twice... This is probably blasphemy but... I don´t go too well with normal metal people for too long. I dislike the atmosphere of the concerts as well... I don´t know, it´s weird, since I saw Negura Bunget, Arcturus and other tremendous bands live, I can´t enjoy "normal" metal anymore. Although the Arcturus gig ended with me on the police station...

No, it's not blasphemy. I can still enjoy metal, but I have sincere problems with parts of the audience, too. I can remember the Arcturus gig at the Nebelmond festival where great parts of the audience didn’t have any idea of the bands and preferred talking rubbish while bands like Disillusion, Secrets of the Moon and Arcturus played within few hours – just unbelievably disrespectful. When I returned to my car later that night there was some kind of Böse Onkelz Party going on between many other cars with the typical “fans” around… I guess no more words needed.
Last year’s Zwischenwelten festival was nice, especially the Tenhi gig. This year I’ll try to attend at least one festival with Enslaved…

I was attending a local festival situated in Szeged, Hungary. It's called SZIN and although I came here just for Gire I enjoyed the whole atmosphere. Important to mention though that didn't attend any other metal concerts there. This might be the reason for the fact I did enjoyed it.

What annoys me is that many see metal just as an excuse to be a fucked up low life who does nothing but get incredibly wasted. That´s perfectly ok but don´t give me your stupid "SLAAAAYER!" at a concert of a band that clearly exceeds your capacity of thought.

To many metalheads concerts are just a place, an occasion to give out anger and mosh. I have no problems with those who go to their fav band's concert and enjoying it. But I do have problems with those people who do the opposite: not matter what band or style. They go there and act like animals. Too many are doing it and it's going to be a stereotype, this is why I hate when someone call me or thinks of me "metalhead".

We call these people "UGA-BEER-TITS-SLAYER-METALFANS"
oT: This year Deimon will crush into MASTERS OF ROCK (CZ), SUMMER NIGHTS (AT) together with INZEST and hopefully a little more festivals (maybe METALCAMP, ROCK HARD FESTIVAL etc.) - depends on my time...

I went to Party.San in Thuringia once, and it was not "SLAAAYER!" there, more like "SCHLÄÄÄIÖÖÖÖ!" But I even liked "DISCHMEMBÖÖÖ" better
Last time I attended Wacken was 2003 I believe; and I only remember CARPATHIAN FOREST (from five bands I´ve seen overall) with Nattefrost vomiting on Stage . Which, I admit, was a cool gig, but approx. 150 Euro for one band and some more which I have seen at least thrice before was too much for me, and since then no Wacken after that for poor Tentakel. I enjoy small concerts better.

I went to Wacken twice, 2003-04. Saw and met Bal-Sagoth, that was cool. Some good concerts, but mostly too much warmth and sun and far too many Germans (no offence but there are aspects of German people that during certain conditions can become quite intolerable! but I'm sure none of you are like that). I went to Arvika in Sweden twice, an "alternative music" festival (I saw among others Kraftwerk - awesome - and The Cure and Skinny Puppy there). Tiamat and Meshuggah and My Dying Bride were great there too... not too warm, not too many idiots (10-15000 visitors is cozy).
But in general I've grown kinda bored with festivals. It was funnier as a teen. I have though been longing for the relaxed free feeling of not washing for 5 days and living in tents, drunk and stuff... but nah. Smaller shows are better.

I hope we do not misunderstand each other. I am a crazy mosher. But obviouosly only if the music is adequate. Excuse me, but going to an Exodus concert and just stand is fucking pathetic.
I am offended by now as well when people say I am a metal guy. I don´t even know what to say when they ask what kind of music I listen to. When my gf says to her friends what music I listen to they go like: "But you don´t even look like one!"
wtf?
Which aspects aVoid?
I was there 2004 too. crowd surfing with a kilt on Grave Digger gig: priceless
