 Recommend A Band
Well, i just heared of Korovakill. I've met them lurking around the Avantgard Myspace page. They are really awesome, and in passages, they reminds me of "The Masquerade Infernal" 's Arcuturs. Check them out.

Check Idiot Flesh, one of the first Avantgarde/experimental acts formed in 1985! 2 of the members formed Sleepytime Gorilla Museum after Idiot Flesh's disbanding.

I agree, I like their Zoo Hypothesis very much, however still I don't really got the new album's feeling.

Spektr.
An avant garde black metal band from France similar to Blut Aus Nord I guess but in my opinion heaps better and more accessible.

Check out this video of spektr. Truly disconcerting in full weirdness yet somehow grotesquely beautiful.

A shameless plug of my own project
for those into or (willing to listen to) post-rock blended with black metal and ambient atmospheres. altogether, something avant-garde.

 Blotted Science
I've got to recommend Blotted Science, the new technical progressive and VERY heavy instrumental project from Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastik Ink).
The bassist on this project is Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse, who is WAY more talented than I realized. They've changed drummers a few times (starting with Chris Adler, then Derek Roddy - kind of Spinal Tap-ish, huh??) but they've finally settled on Charlie Zeleny (from Behold...the Arctopus and Jordan Rudess' solo band).
This music is extremely technical and progressive, but also very catchy and actually listenable. Excellent production, too. This isn't just a bunch of boring, un-melodic shredding, like most of the Shrapnel albums in the 1990's.
It's good stuff for open-minded listeners who also like technical skills.
