Quote: I hate to chime in, but I actually like the "Heavy, Left-Handed, and Candid" live DVD. It's a pretty good performance, ... Dani has a pretty tough set of lungs, and is able to do a great variety of different extreme vocals. I was actually impressed by this set.
The whole "depressed, but loveable" vampire thing is a bit silly, look how many bands are now cashing in on the look that Dani made popular.
Haven't seen any of their DVDs... saw them in 2004, right before the release of Nymphetamine - pretty aweful actually! Dani is a talented singer, though it didn't come through in 2004. Festival gig before sunset though, takes away whatever mood there was to begin with. What caught my mind when listening to the latest albums was that nowadays, he really sounds like he's 14. Prefered the banshee shrieks he did like 10 years ago.
And yeah, the lesbovampire thing went out of style pretty fast... the Clive Barker thing they did on Midian was definitely a cool change.

It's funny if you listen to COF's first album, "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh" Dani's vocals were almost more like Death Metal than the shrieking you usually hear in most black metal. Way more "conservative", and maybe better in someways. Maybe??

Haven't thought about that, but you may be right. Kudos to them, they never really fell into any standardized BM formula, even though they were inspired by the Norwegians (A blaze in the northern sky turned Dani into BM, btw). They did their thing, and they're still doing it, going not as strong though.
Actually, I consider their demos to be death metal, with gothic/heavy metal veins. Interesting stuff, really.

Guess what......Children of Bodom .... (really!)
"One Day You Will Cry" from their new album and I must say it's lot better than the previous one and more thrash oriented.
(strengthening the popular-way in the topic )

Old-school Canadian Metal! - Fenriz would be proud. Their next album "RRROOOAAAARRRRR!!" is along the same vein. Classic, eh?

EXTREMELY classic! On your weak sounds we will prey...
Haven't got to Dimension Hatröss or Nothingface yet, but everything I've heard with Snake on vocals, including the underrated Angel Rat and The Outer Limits, are goddamn fab. Easily one of the best bands of the 80s next to Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost, with the slight difference that they didn't turn crappy when GnR became the shit and extreme metal arose!

Oh the contrasts.
