Post Cryptopsy - The Unspoken King
Just listened to the Promo of this one, and it sounds like good old Cryptopsy to me. Why all the controversy? A lot of the forums seem to be posting false information regarding both the new album and the upcoming tour being canceled due to everyone hating the new album.

One post actually says that they are breaking up because of all the negative response. Another says the tour is canceled because Flo broke his kneecap. People at Blabbermouth all say the new singer sucks, but he sounds good to me.

I think the album sounds good - maybe even better than Once Was Not, which would have been better with better production. I even think I like the additional keyboards and atmosphere of this album. There is a lot more variety in general. Even clean vocals which are pretty interesting. There's a "Porcupine Tree-ish" vibe to parts of this album. I LIKE IT!

Any opinions on this supposedly controversial album? I don't get all the negativity.

I've only listened to it once, but aside from the occassionally cheesy clean vocals and inappropriate keyboards, the music sounds pretty good and reminds me of the last Aborted. It's obviously a leaner, relatively simpler Cryptopsy, but that's fine, I don't expect a band to stay the same. I do, however, expect them to put as much effort into their new elements as the old. I wasn't a fan of Once Was Not, the production and vocals ruined it for me. Guess it'll be a few more listens before I'll know wether to delete'n'forget, just like last time, or purchase.

Well, my drummer heard it and said it was a hella lotta deathcore. But what that means I know not.

And I heard about Flo's kneecap before the songs leaked & they became their fan's arch-foe. I wanna hear what they do with the electronic stuff. It'll be an interesting listen at least.

I remember reading that Flo Mounier himself wasn't happy with the final mix of "Once Was Not" - the guitars were low in the mix and muddy, just not as powerful as "And Then You'll Beg" which was my favorite overall.

I do like the new version of the band. I think bands should change and evolve, as long as it benefits them. I like these new elements that sort of almost bring Cryptopsy into the progressive avant garde realm.

But I just wonder why all the negativism and controversy over this album. It's like the trvv kvlt freaks who believe that all black metal has to sound like "Transylvanian Hunger" or else it's not TRVV!! Then again, most death/grind fans aren't exactly "flexible" in their tastes.

it's because their singer is deathcore (EMO!!!) and they got a GIRL in THE BAND!!! You can't have girls in death metal!

Once was not was really disappointing to me, but I'm curious for the new album. I fear it will be a total waste of time, anyway...

I don't know if the new singer is "deathcore" or not. He growls, he screams, he sings. So does Ihsahn, so does Mike Akerfeldt, Jonas Renske, Dan Swano, Paul Kuhr, so do a lot of people.

Do I dare even touch the subject "girls in death metal"?? I think not.

Bands (like real people) have to grow up. Some mature well, yet still retain the edge and drive of youth. Some get old and conservative. Some people get old, but stay the same ass that they ever were and will be. Some get better. We can't expect our musicians to want to stay the same forever. Look at Slayer. They still play live great, but haven't made an interesting album since 1992. Ephel Duath? Every album they've done is completely different and better than the last one.

Growth. Not a bad thing if done right.

I LIKE the new album. It's a step forward into a new era of this band. If you like it, buy it. If not, then don't. But the endless voices screaming about how they've sold out really are getting annoying. It's not like they went country-pop or rap-metal. We're not gonna see them as guest judges on American Idol or The Pussycat Dolls Girlicious.

I don't know, haven't heard his earlier bands. I'm just mocking the mockers. Since everything is deathcore these days & I don't have a clue what it is, it's hard to tell.

Again, I'm ironizing the nitwits on the Cryptopsy forum. Many of them were, well, quite disdained by the thought of something so lowly and yucky as a girl in their favourite band. And since she doesn't look like a troll, she's only added to the line-up to look good and sell albums, since they're completely sold out now.

I'm mostly reacting to metalheads reacting against female metal musicians because almost EVERY metal listener I know, seriously can't stand the thought of female musicians, and I'm, well, quite disdained by that horribly common sexist attitude. Especially in death/black metal; doom seems to be a bit more open (as one 17year old guy mused in a forum; guys get angry, girls get sad; ergo, men are better metal musicians than women, but since doom is whiny, it's open to girls, using at least that guy's idea).

What, are we displaying an ironically snarky sense of humor in a metal forum! Augh! Another serious faux paux (is that spelled right?)

You should see the reviews of this album at the Metal Archive. http://www.metal-archives.com/review.php?id=193915

They gave it an average of 9% That's just sad.

Haha, I really should learn to make my irony & sarkasm a bit more obvious, tone of voice isn't really conveyed that well over the Internet...

Interesting reviews. At least some of them has given it a chance. Can't be fun being Flo these days. I've never seen such an enraged fanbase; seriously, did even Cold Lake whip up this amount of rage?

You should visit the Official Cryptopsy forum.

http://www.smnnews.com/board/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=129

I have never seen such a negative fan response to an album. Now mind you, Flo himself participates in and reads the forum, - poor guy. It's really embarrassing. So I decided to register, log in, and add my two-cents. Watch me get flamed with hate mail.

Yeah, that's the forum I was referring to. And that was when only those two first songs had been leaked. I was duly pissed off, so I fared in the same plans... register (as I do consider them one of the best DM bands around) and counter-attack, just for the fuck of it.

I'll still listen to their new album, but based on the songs I did hear, I thought it sucked pretty bad. But I'll wait to give my real opinion. I don't usually bother with leaks.
